Unit of the Week - 4/14/13

Can't slack off anymore, I'll make this one a bit nicer.

EDIT: I'M LATE.
EDIT: Took me over 2 weeks to realize I titled the MONTH wrong.

I was actually pretty excited about this one.

Another one with no lore.  It seems a lot of the set 3 RRRs have this going on?  (Or maybe just him and Palamedes.)

Dark Irregulars
Grade 3
10000
[AUTO](VC):At the beginning of your main phase, Soul Charge (1), and this unit gets [Power]+2000 until end of turn.
[ACT](VC/RC):[Soul Blast (8) & Counter Blast (5)] Choose one of your opponent's rear-guards, and put that unit on your opponent's (VC), and at the beginning of the end phase of that turn, your opponent chooses a card from his or her soul, and rides it.

*GASP* A really unique and awesome effect that isn't text cancer!  Only 6 lines?  And 2 of them are the standard effect for most megablast units?!  NO WAY!

lol, jk.
It's just that I saw Exculpate the Blaster the other day and I was like "Oh god, no.  This thing has like 10 lines of text on it in a smaller than usual font."

But onto Stil Vampir!  You may have noticed already, but Stil Vampir falls into the category of megablast units (soul charge at beginning, big effect that costs CB5, SB8).  Megablast units get a lot of bad rep for a variety of reasons.  Some of them, like Unite Attacker, are really kinda crappy.  Others, like CEO Amaterasu or Stil Vampir, are not only viable but actually GOOD.

In an earlier unit analysis article, I wrote about why CEO was good.  The difference here is, Stil Vampir, unlike CEO or Mr. Invincible, isn't good for his secondary effects, but for his own megablast skill.

First, I should remind people that Stil Vampir is actually a VIABLE megablast because:
1. Dark Irregulars have the means to get 8 soul very easily.
2. The clan doesn't need counterblasts (really, there's Emblem Master and Gwynn, and both can be left out).
3. YOU CAN KILL PEOPLE WITH THIS!

Why is it good:
-ACT skill.  You can use it whenever and your opponent can't stop you.
-Not only does it force your opponent to guard for more for having a weaker vanguard, but it locks out intercepts if it was a grade 1, and perfect guards as well, if it was a grade 0.
-In Dark Irregulars, 8 soul is stupidly easy.
-Oh, you can splash this in another clan too!  How about OTT?  With some Silent Tom?  Make your opponent unable to guard with anything?
-Surprise your opponent by calling it to rear!  It works on the rear guard circle too!

Now, time for me to go back to playing Theatrhythm.

  1. Sorry but according to Bushiroad, even if your VG is G1 or lower, you can still intercept.

    1. Yeah, I know this. I should go back and clarify that.
In any case, that leaves your opponent with 20k max to guard with (assuming 2 10k intercepts which is extremely rare).

By "not being able to guard with anything" I meant pretty much generally screwed on calling to guard circle.
