Unit of the Week - 1/27/2013

And this week's card will be:  Brutal Genocide Jack!
Oh wow, first unit of the week to not be a grade 3!
And that wonderful alliteration is now ruined.

One of the strongest amongst the top ranked Nova Grapplers, he's a cruel fighter who repeatedly loses due to clear rules violations. Even against enemies who beg for their lives, he continues swinging cruel blows into his foe without a hint of hesitation.

It really describes him well.  And boy does he hit hard.

Nova Grappler
Grade 2
11000
[CONT](VC/RC):Restraint (This unit cannnot attack.)
[ACT](VC/RC):[Counter Blast (1)] Until end of turn, this unit loses "Restraint".
[AUTO](VC):When this unit is boosted by a «Nova Grappler», this unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of that battle.

One of my favorite Nova Grappler rearguards.  Wait.  Nevermind, it's my favorite Nova Grappler rear guard.  (Although I'm rather fond of Kirara too.)

He's grade 2 first of all, which makes him easier to use (more space to include it, can use it 1 turn earlier, can intercept/guard with).  11000 power is even more favorable in the case that your opponents are trying to get rid of it (it's easier to defend and hard to hit).  11000 power also makes it a really great stand target.

Now, the restraint cost: 1 counterblast.  That's it.  1 counterblast.  That's less costly than Sagramore!  Well, they're both 1 counterblast but Nova Grapplers unflip damage really easily so this is nothing.  And of course, after the cost is paid, the restraint is lifted for the duration of your turn, meaning it can attack more than once if you stand it with a skill/trigger.

The 3rd skill, one shared by most (if not all; someone correct me if I'm wrong) grade 2 restraint units (i.e. Saraquel, Stormride, etc), is the +5000 when boosted skill.  This pretty much means that it will almost always be hitting 3 stages.  4 stages if the unit behind it is a re-stood Dancing Wolf.  3 for almost anything else.  And just a 7-8k booster to hit crossrides for 3 stages.

It works well as a standalone unit, it works well in its own clan, and it's easily fit into most builds.
Highly recommended in most Nova decks.  9.5/10 would run this.

And next week's unit analysis will be for a Gold Paladin unit!
