Unit of the Week - 1/13/2013

This week's card will be a personal favorite: Amber Dragon, Eclipse!

So dark and edgy!

"From a wide range of possibilities, this is the final evolutionary form picked by "Dawn". Driven by revenge for all the hardships he experienced in the past, he now calls himself "Eclipse", relentlessly pursuing the Warriors of Light. Enemies who stand up against him are reduced to ashes before the corrosive flames of his "Eternal Eclipse", leaving not a single trace of their existence."

Ok, so he's a digimon.  A really epic one.

Kagero
Grade 3
10000
[CONT](VC):If you have a card named "Amber Dragon, Dusk" in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+1000.
[ACT](VC):[Counter Blast (2)] This unit gets "[AUTO](VC):When this unit's attack hits a vanguard, choose up to two of your opponent's rear-guards, and retire them." until end of turn.

The end form of the Amber Dragon ride chain.  Not a bad chain, I must add.  If it is successful, Eclipse becomes a permanent 11k vanguard.  Actually, you only need Dusk, the grade 2 in the soul for that.

He's kind of misunderstood actually.  It's not bad because it fails at retiring your opponent's rear guards.  It's GOOD because it makes your opponent prevent that by guarding...EARLY.

Decks that focus on this unit may find Bellicosity Dragon VERY useful.
Garnet Dragon, Flash also works well with this card.
So does Heatnail Salamander.
Why?  With on-hit effects in every column, at least one of them is bound to hit.  And when they do, you benefit from it.

He's got his drawbacks though.  Unlike Lawkeeper and Waterfall, he doesn't always hit 3 stages.  You can try to boost it up to a 21 mark with Garnet, but Garnet himself is a 9k that you NEVER want to ride (somewhat remedied by Daylight's skill).

He also works without the ride chain (but that's outside of what I've tested).

*yawn*
...going to bed now.
