Christmas on Cray

Greetings Everyone!
We at Trigger Capital wishes you all a Merry Christmas!

In the spirit of the holidays, I have constructed a diorama
composed of Christmas-themed Neo Nectar units.

Enjoy!

As Santa's helpers, they plan to spread joy and happiness
to nice Cardfighters everywhere.

Happy Cardfighting!

Oracle Think Tank - Of Clashing Blades and LOVE

Well, it was suggested that I make a festive decklist for the holiday season.  And so, this is just something I've had my eye on for a while (can't wait for that extra booster to come out).

This is one of those decks where I looked at the grade 3 vanguards first, and built the rest around it.
Also, this deck is really lore driven.  The battle sisters really are awesome.  I'd watch a spinoff vanguard series about them...seriously, I would.

Introduction: New Blogger Joining Trigger Capital

Hello, I am Richard.  It is very nice to meet all of you.  I want to thank team Trigger Capital for accepting me as part of their team.  I will try my best to help out with their page by creating my own blogs based on my passion of Cardfight Vanguard.  Wish me luck!  This is my first time blogging, and I am really excited but somewhat nervous because of my shyness hehehe.  However, I will do my best to post my experiences and opinions on the card game and the anime.  Also, my deck profiles of some of my favorite clans.  Without further ado, let us begin.

Dangerous Winds Out At Sea - Aqua Force (Maelstrom)

After a long hiatus from working with the blog, I have finally returned!

With October coming to an end, so do the Cardfight!! Vanguard World Championship 2013 Qualifiers in North America. The following is a recollection of my experience at the Los Angeles Qualifier hosted at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, CA.

The venue was definitely quite different from the previous venue in Anaheim used for the qualifier back in 2012. There was also a lower reported number of participants compared to last year's tournament (590 in 2013 vs. ~700 in 2012). Nonetheless, Cardfighters eagerly awaited to take each other on for the invite to the North American Continental Championship that day! This particular event was unique from the previous qualifiers in that cards from the recently released BT11: Sealed Dragons Unleashed were legal for play for the event, and sure enough, numerous Cardfighters showed up with decks utilizing these cards.

For this event, I decided to go with a build I have been using for the past few months and have won a couple of tournaments with:

Royal Paladin - Majesty Lord Bastard

I feel better now that the hype is gone.  I still feel bad about this though.  A non budget RP deck running 0 Palamedes...  Yup, I feel awful.

Welp, I'll get it over with.  It's pretty consistent at least.

Introduction - New Member to the Ranks

Hello all! I'm Kyureki (you can call me whatever you like though), and most if not all of you probably don't know who I am, but it has been decided that I'll now be joining this blog as sort of a guest writer from now on. As such, I've decided to make this little intro post to get all of you acquianted with me before I start posting any actual content.

First of all, I've been playing Vanguard since a little bit before the game came into English, albiet only casually at first, and have since then progressed towards more professional levels of play. During the first World Championship regional qualifiers, I went in with an experimental deck that I hadn't used at all before and got to round 4 before being eliminated, with both of my losses being due to grade lock. Since then, I entered the Stand Up Cup and got into the regionals before once again being eliminated due to grade lock (why does this always happen to me at large tournaments? orz). Unfortunately, this year I sadly will not be able to go to the World Championship qualifiers due to other obligations already being in place, however I will be trying to enter any other large Vanguard tournaments in the future.

As for what kind of player I am, I originally started out as a Magic: The Gathering player since around 2003, though only as an extremely casual player, and still play the game to this day. If you know anything about Magic, then I was always typically a Blue/White type of player. In other words, my playstyle is very defensive and likes to control what happens as much as possible, including preventing my opponent from doing what they want to do and increasing the chances of what I want happening to happen as much as I can. This shows itself clearly in what decks are my main decks, Eternal Idol Pacifica and Musketeers.

Now since this intro is getting a bit long so I'll start to end it here. Next time I post here, I'll probably be starting a mini-series of sorts of in-depth looks into various cards that are often neglected by many players, yet can still be very powerful if used properly. With that said, see you all next time!

Tachikaze - Tyrant Beatdown

It's a really simple deck.  Pretty cheap too.  But it's pretty balanced and all.

I should've gotten archbirds when they were $4...

Hella meta...sadly.

And hype is here, hype has been here, hype will always be here.

So I guess it's time to put out some of the less pleasant decklists soon...

-DOTE (I've been dreading it.)
-MLB (It's not even meta anymore and I still don't like it.)
-The Blood (ugh)
-Platina Ezel (ugh)

10-12
-???? (my planned deck...)
-liberator crap
-eradicator crap
-revenger - not so crap
-link joker crap
-jewel knight stuff
-seal dragon stuff
-genesis decks

TACHIKAZE DECKLIST FIRST!  I want to put that out before this crud.

Hybrid - Tsukuyomi's Ocean Voyage

A good friend of mine has a deck like this.  It was very interesting, so I made my own variation after playing his deck a few times.

If you happen to be in the area and go to C&J Collectibles a lot, you might recognize it.

Spike Brothers - Mech Emperor

In keeping with building a collection of decklists...

And making posts regularly.

Great Nature - Leo-pald's Hamster Farm

Haven't played this deck in a while.  If anything seems off, put in a comment.  I might have messed up somewhere.

Granblue - Only 4

It's THAT deck.

Well, no, not the 1 Monster Frank deck (although that's also hilarious).

The 4 G3 deck.
Really budget.  Really fun.

Pale Moon - Sword Throwing

My other Sarah variant.  This one is more of a beatdown deck with a bonus effect or 2.

Pressure oriented build can be found here: http://triggercapital.blogspot.com/2013/08/pale-moon-knife-throwing.html

Pale Moon - Knife Throwing

Like I promised, Pale Moon with Sarah as main vanguard.

This one is the pressure oriented build.

Beatdown build is available too: http://triggercapital.blogspot.com/2013/08/pale-moon-sword-throwing.html

I'm back!

Back from vacation in Beijing.  And guess what?  Cardfighting not only cured my depression last year, but also cured my jet lag this year.  Honestly, it works better than prescription drugs!

But, enough of that.  I should actually start putting more content on this blog.

Upcoming deck lists:

-Soul Paladins (2 or 3 versions of)
-Spectral Duke
-My budget 'unwanted vanguards' Narukami deck (oh god, I heard Guld is $5 now)
-Pale Moon (pressure build for Sarah first, then maybe I'll do a build for Luquier)
-Dark Irregulars (turbo soul charging, Reijy)
-Spike Brothers (Emperor build; this deck is really fun-- I said FUN, not GOOD --with no perfect guards or heal triggers)
-Maelstrom (been meaning to do this for a while, but maybe Rin can do this)
-'The hell am I supposed to ride?" Granblue (oh yeah....THIS deck)
-Great Nature (my Apt deck and a standard Leopald one)
-Nova Grapplers (I'm building a Rutile based deck)

Card Discussion - Mirror Diva, Biscayne

Alright! So... Dragon∞Blade normally does her "Unit of the Week" but since she's on vacation I'll be doing a "Card Discussion". It's been a while since anything has happened on the blog so let's take a look at one of the cards from the recently released Extra Booster, Dazzling Divas.

The card of discussion will be Mirror Diva, Biscayne.

For a set titled "Dazzling Divas", Biscayne is
the only one labeled as such outside of lore.

As her name, flavor text, and even image suggests, Biscayne is rarely ever alone on stage. A single Soulblast let's you look at the top seven cards of your deck for another copy to add to your reserves. The only qualified stand-in for the diva Biscayne is herself.

Right then, let's use some numbers for once to get a better idea of how much "luck" you would need to pull off her effect.
(My calculations could be wrong so bear with me.)
  • After setting your Starting Vanguard and drawing your opening hand, you are left with 44 cards in your deck.
  • It's your turn and you draw a card (43 cards left in your deck).
    • You ride to Grade 1 and assuming you don't use a Forerunner, you call Biscayne to the Rearguard and activate her effect.
      • Assume 3 copies of Biscayne are left in your deck at this point.
      • Through Biscayne's effect, each checked card that is not Biscayne increase the odds of the next card being Biscayne.
3/43 + 3/42 + 3/41 + 3/40 + 3/39 + 3/38 + 3/37 = 0.5263182714 = 52.63182714%
      • Thus, you're a little better off than a flip of a coin.
    • Now, let's assume you are using a Forerunner. You won't be able to use Biscayne until you are at Grade 2.
      • By the time you're at Grade 2 you would have drawn another card (42 cards left) and performed at least 1 Trigger Check (41 cards left).
      • Again, we assume you still have 3 copies of Biscayne in your deck.
3/41 + 3/40 + 3/39 + 3/38 + 3/37 + 3/36 + 3/35 = 0.5541698772 = 55.41698772%
  • Thus, Biscayne offers a little over 50-50 chance of retrieving another copy. The same pattern can be used to calculate the odds of the effect working a second time in the same turn (37.94893264%).
To be honest, if your were the type of player to run 4x Sentinals and 4x 8k Boosters, Biscayne would just take up deck space since the remaining slots would go to Units that supports your deck's strategy. Plus if your deck requires Soulblasts, Biscayne might actually slow it down.

However, for a budget build, Biscayne is a good way to provide a small lead in card advantage. The extra copy of Biscayne can be used to Boost or Guard. Even though its just 1 less card, it still means 1 card closer to possibly checking a trigger. As a 6k Booster, it just barely sets up columns attacking for 15k-16k. Nonetheless, if your deck doesn't focus on hitting the magic 20k-21k columns, having Boosters is better than having none.

Well, I think this post is long enough. Time to sit back and enjoy Biscayne's newest song.
(I wonder if she performs covers.)

Cardfight!! Vanguard News from Anime Expo 2013

EDIT 7/23/2013: Some pictures taken at the panel have been added.

I have completed Day 2 out of 4 at Anime Expo 2013, and I have decided to take the time to write this little post on my phone of all things (and upload it from there)!

Anime Expo attendees ask Dr. K (general manager J-Kim) some questions they have about the future of Weiss Schwarz and Cardfight!! Vanguard.

I got up early to be able to attend Bushiroad's panel and Q&A session hosted by general manager J-Kim (sometimes appears at large sanctioned events as Dr. K, someone quite similar to Dr. O from the anime) and the manager of the community pages of the company's two flagship games: Cardfight!! Vanguard and Weiss Schwarz. During the event, we got some exciting news for Cardfighters!

Murakumo - Ninja Art: Illusionary Wall!

With BT09: Clash of the Knights and Dragons, more clans have received Crossride units, and what does that mean? An increased slowdown in game pace in this already defensive-oriented format. Well, I have a little something to say to that. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you the covert corps of the Dragon Empire, particularly what I would like call the "Illusion Duo."

The Illusion Duo of the Dragon Empire. They act as defense commanders
for the Covert Ops.

BT05: Awakening of Twin Blades, the set that helped make Murakumo playable along with introducing the Crossrides and the monstrosity that that is Majesty Lord Blaster, brought us Covert Demonic Dragon, Mandala Lord, a unit that can turn extra copies of himself into a psuedo-Guardian with an equivalent of 10000 Shield at the cost of 1 Counter-Blast. Later on, BT09 gave us Fantasy Petal Storm, Shirayuki, which does something does the same thing Mandala Lord but at Limit Break only as a psuedo-Guardian with an equivalent shield value of 20000. Why do I use the term "psuedo-Guardian", you ask? These abilities in particular do not actually provide shield like Guardians do but rather decrease a unit's overall POWER. What does this mean? Against units like Dragonic Kaiser Vermillion and Exculpate the Blaster with their abilities granting them the ability to attack multiple units in one attack, you can easily put those skills to a screeching halt and completely stop them with a lower shield value than if you did not use the Persona Blasts of Mandala Lord or Shirayuki.

The concept behind these 2 units is that Drive Checking and drawing into Grade 3s does not become too detrimental for you come your opponent's turn as they essentially have Shield value. With Shirayuki in particular, it's almost like having most of the strength of a Sentinel at the cost of 1 card in hand rather than 2. With that said, let's move onto my take on a deck based around these two units:

_________________________________________________________________________________
Grade 0 (17)
1 Stealth Rogue of Body Replacement, Kokuenmaru
4 Stealth Fiend, Yukihime (Heal Trigger)
3 Stealth Beast, Cat Rogue (Draw Trigger)
2 Stealth Fiend, Rokuro Lady (Draw Trigger)
4 Fox User, Izuna (Critical Trigger)
3 Stealth Beast, Cat Devil (Critical Trigger)
NOTE: Murakumo has quite a lot of trigger choices. Use what you think looks good. If you really want to have a grind game against your opponents (which I personally would not suggest until the game becomes more offensively-oriented), you can try running Stand Triggers instead and annoy them.

Grade 1 (14)
4 Silent Stealth Rogue, Shijimamaru
4 Stealth Beast, Leaves Mirage
3 Stealth Fiend, Oboro Cart
3 Stealth Beast, Midnight Panther

Grade 2 (11)
4 Stealth Beast, Bloody Mist
4 Stealth Beast, White Mane
3 Stealth Dragon, Cursed Breath

Grade 3 (8)
4 Covert Demonic Dragon, Mandala Lord
4 Fantasy Petal Storm, Shirayuki
_________________________________________________________________________________
The Grade 0 lineup consists of a Grade 3-searcher Forerunner as the clan lacks a way to access Shirayuki outside of game mechanics, and we would like to be able to access extra copies of our Grade 3s if needed. Stealth Beast, Evil Ferret does not help us too much since we don't really need the early offensive, but I guess he can make for a nice 5000 boost behind the Vanguard since both the Grade 3s here are 11000 base. Triggers are fairly standard, with an extra Draw Trigger than some would go for as we would like to be able to access both our offensive and defensive units quicker.

As for Grade 1s, we got the standard vanilla boosters and Sentinels. An interesting choice you might find is the inclusion of Stealth Fiend, Oboro Cart. With this unit, we can temporarily clone any Murakumo rearguard for a turn. This helps to increase offensive capabilities when most needed. I did try using Stealth Beast, Leaf Raccoon, a conditional 10000 boost to the Vanguard, but I found it quite unsuitable for the current state of the game, so we will use a stable 7000 boost in the form of Stealth Beast, Midnight Panther, who can be pushed up a bit if needed. You are also free to use Stealth Rogue of Summoning, Jiraiya if you do not care for Midnight Panther's ability and/or you just want to trick people into thinking that you are setting up for a Gigantoad swarm.

Grade 2s consist of our Vanilla interceptors along with a set of Damage unflippers. Believe it or not, this deck can easily eat up Counter-Blasts even though they're all paid 1 at a time. If anything, you can use them to poke cards out of the opponent's hand. As I mentioned before, Murakumo lacks easy access to Shirayuki, but the clan has 2 units that can possibly result in a Mandala Lord: Stealth Dragon, Turbulence Edge and Stealth Dragon, Cursed Breath. Cursed Breath is much more preferred because it's also an interceptor, and I would say he's the optimal Grade 2 ride because of his ability. His effectiveness begins to dwindle past the first Grade 3 ride.

Need I explain the Grade 3s? A maximum equivalent of 90000 Shield, people, with an average of an additional 40000-60000 Shield equivalent showing up during a typical game!

While this deck may not be too competitive now, it is quite the annoying deck to deal with due to the extra possible equivalent Shield values via the extra Grade 3s. It does have consistency issues such as having extra Mandala Lords while your Vanguard is Shirayuki and vice-versa along with subpar offensive power. If anything, the extra Mandala Lords can be called to rearguard for a decent 11000 attacker (You don't want to do this with Shirayuki because being an equivalent of 20000 Shield is much too valuable.). This is definitely a variant of Murakumo that requires patience to be able to properly use and succeed with.

With that, I say, "Ninja Art: Shadow Clone! Ride!"

A shameless post......I'm not sorry.

So, I was on a Skype chat with Rin and Barrel, and we were discussing snacks.  Rin said that his favorite Pretz flavor was onion, and I said I liked the tomato flavor a lot more.

And Barrel gave me this quick edit:
Neo Nectar supplies the nations with produce and other wonderful snacks!

This post was absolutely pointless, but I hope someone laughs at this!  (Stuck with 3 copies of this in my sneak peek deck.  Cost me a game or two for sure!)

Neo Nectar - Knights of the Flowers

AKA, Lonefire Blossom and Pot of Avarice.

Since my musketeer deck is coming along so nicely (Great Daiyusha and Basil got me 8 holos for this deck including 2 Cecilia; it'll be done after another $30 or so), I thought I'd share the deck with everyone.

I want to post it, but I don't, since it's so straightforward with the current card pool.
But I shall!

EDIT: I totally forgot to post this lol.

Fanime 2013 and Beyond

As you may have read in one of our previous posts, we were at Fanime 2013, cosplaying as characters (and units in the case of Dragon∞Blade) from good, old "Cardfight!! Vanguard" as shown below:

Left to right: Barrel as Dr. O; Rin Dunois as Sendou Aichi; Dragon∞Blade as Goddess of the Full Moon, Tsukuyomi
Don't you guys think Barrel and Dragon∞Blade would look better with their glasses off?

Post-Fanime Depression

As usual for me.

But I'll post about the convention soon, along with some photos of my Tsukuyomi cosplay.

Bushiroad had a booth there.  Pretty cool.

Barrel's [Kagero - Control]

Barrel here and I present to you my "Kagero Tech". I wouldn't call this my "main" deck - actually I don't even know if I have a "main" deck or not - but this has been the most consistent deck in terms of victories and usage.

Royal Paladin - Alfred Beatdown

In (long overdue) celebration of Rin switching his deck back to Alfred Toolbox/Beatdown, I finally decided I wanted one too.  (He switched back from MLB shitnanigans, because they were annoying and unfitting, not to mention slightly degrading.)

This deck will be pretty darn standard (no weird shit here; can't desecrate the king of knights), but I'm certain I'll enjoy it.

EDIT: Won 1st at locals with this.  7 packs: 1 vortex dragon.  FAIL.  But oh well, it was fun!

It's been busy...

With 5-6 straight midterm weeks (with 1-3 midterms each).

So Unit of the Week is on hold.

BUT, THIS WEEKEND WAS GREAT.
Quite a few tournaments and events...

Unit of the Week - 4/14/13

Can't slack off anymore, I'll make this one a bit nicer.

EDIT: I'M LATE.
EDIT: Took me over 2 weeks to realize I titled the MONTH wrong.

I was actually pretty excited about this one.

Cardfight!! Vanguard World Championship Qualifier - Los Angeles - A Long Journey with the Knights of the Sanctuary

Seeing that the Stand-Up Challenge Regional Qualifiers are starting this weekend, I thought I would take the time to write about my own experience at the Cardfight!! Vanguard World Championship Qualifier at Los Angeles on November 3, 2012. I may not have managed to qualify for this round of Regional Qualifiers, but I think people should be able to walk away with some useful information from this article on what to expect.

A difference people should take in mind is that this first batch of large-scale competitive events for the English version of the game were open to all players as long as you were able to register and show up on time. These events were also typically held in large venues such as convention centers. The Los Angeles Regional Qualifier in particular was held in at the Anaheim Convention Center (alongside a convention dedicated to "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" called Equestria LA that same day).

Monday, April 8, 2013

Wow, I'm really lazy aren't I?

I'm not dead, just got classes and other hectic, new quarter business.

Unit of the week and some other posts will be continued next Sunday.

Upcoming:

Another joke deck that was born when I "proxied" a GP Garmore with a CEO and ended up using it as CEO, not Garmore.

I give you all soon, Gold CEO Paladins!

If I find this shit is valid in any way, shape, or form.
It's got a slogan too!  "Check it before you call it!"

Or I'm just nuts.

Unit of the Week - 3/24/13

Let's talk about some underrated cards today.

Since this week is supposed to be for Murakumo anyways.  A nice card we got in set 5: Covert Demonic Dragon, Mandala Lord!

Shadow Paladin - Ildona's Chaos

Sometimes you only need to ride a unit once to know that you've found something great for yourself.  In my case, I borrowed a Shadow Paladin deck from a store employee at my locals after that day's tournament and played quite a few games with it.

Despite the fact that I usually lean toward the build with the dragons, I discovered that I don't like Phantom Blaster Dragon at all!  But I instantly took a liking to Origin Mage, Ildona.

Enough to make the damn deck apparently...

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Gold Paladin - Garmore and Bunnies (Personal Variant)

A more stable version of my personal Garmore build, with the little gimmicks that don't quite belong moved to my Spectral Duke deck.

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Unit of the Week - 3/10/2013

Oh damn, I'm late again.  Meh, I'll just date it as Sunday and post it today, shouldn't be a big deal.
This week, the unit I'm reviewing is Origin Mage, Ildona.
Awesome card art too; look at those "long arms".

Monday, March 4, 2013

Unit of the Week - 3/3/2013

After 2 weeks of no "Unit of the Week" articles, I'm back with another one.  And it's Barrel's favorite card, the adorable angel, Love Machine Gun, Nociel.

Monday, February 25, 2013

Kagero - Iron Fist of the Dragon's Fury (Lawkeeper)

It IS my main deck (and forever will be, perhaps).  I love it.  It does so many things with a single limit break. Many small, subtle things that add up in a cohesive manner; IT'S BEAUTIFUL!

And it finally showed up in the anime.  For about 2 seconds.  And it was great.
I'd put some snappy comment here, but I'm too busy staring at the awesomeness that is Lawkeeper.
(Oh, and Rin made this GIF for me!  Isn't it great?)
To commemorate this event, and "celebrate" the arrival of crossrides.  I give them a warm welcome with 23k and 18k rows EVERYWHERE!

Umm, yeah, so no unit of the week for that past Sunday either...been busy lately...

BUT, I will have posts this week...somehow.

Box opening will NOT be posted because it was such a disaster (that box wasn't worth its own price...ugh...$2 RRR...)

My personal Lawkeeper deck will get an update soon.

Friday, February 22, 2013

Updates for the week?

No, I didn't do a unit of the week article last Sunday.  I was busy.  BUT, I will be working on something special (besides my homework)!  Should have a box opening to do tommorow and a video from that, along with Rin's "Sh** Cardfighters Say!!" video which will be complete soon.

I also recently added a Raindear deck list and a Coco deck list to the pile.  Enjoy.

Oracle Think Tank - Soulless Witch

This seems to be a popular deck...and an easy one really.  So in my busy schedule, I have a decklist to post, and it shall be Soulless OTT.  Because I don't need a brain to do this.

Sunday, February 10, 2013

Unit of the Week - 2/10/2013

Narukami gets a turn in the spotlight this week!
It's kind of a generic unit, but nonetheless useful; this week's unit is Demonic Dragon Berserker, Garuda.
One of the many wonderful grade 2s that Narukami gets.

Sunday, February 3, 2013

Unit of the Week - 2/3/2013

Oh boy, I have to do a Gold Paladin now...
Rabbit armor bearers made Gold Paladins at least 20% cooler.

Choosing the Right Starting Vanguard

So you've picked a clan and maybe a build too.  Now, let's make a deck!

One of the first units you'll pick out will probably be your starting vanguard.  There isn't more than a few to pick from right?  Should be easy enough......apparently not.  I guess I'll make a guide for it.

This article will also clarify and explain some pros and cons of certain starters.

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Some happy news for me...

It's always a happy occasion when a deck I build on paper/online proves itself worthy in real card form.  At a certain point, theory becomes practice and all works out for the best.  And my Royal Paladin deck is about to reach that point.

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Unit of the Week - 1/27/2013

And this week's card will be:  Brutal Genocide Jack!
Oh wow, first unit of the week to not be a grade 3!
And that wonderful alliteration is now ruined.

Angel Feather - Ergodiel/Kiriel (test deck)

I decided one day that I wanted to make an Angel Feather deck.  Before I knew it, I was done (about 1.5 days later; fastest built deck ever).

Death Anchor + Halo Shield, Mark + G3 Tsukuyomi + Agravain = 2x Kiriel, 3x Ergodiel, 1x Requiel, 1x cupid Nociel, 1x machine gun Nociel, 2x Armaros, and a bunch of free commons/rares.

3 card shops, a few different people, and a whole lot of motivation.

Works alright for now.  Might get another Armaros.

Quick Tips for Playing Competitively

You finally got a deck together, played a few games, entered a few tournaments, but you feel something is not quite right. You seem to be losing quite an awful lot than you would like to. Yes, we should be playing games like Cardfight!! Vanguard for fun, but let's admit it: losing constantly gets boring and irritating after a while. Well, allow me to give you a few quick pointers on some things you can do to redeem yourself from that losing streak.
Losing sucks, doesn't it? Well, stop moping and read on

Unit of the Week - 1/20/2013

Alright, going down the list of clans, I guess this week I'll do an Oracle Think Tank unit.

Everyone's favorite (subjective) OTT vanguard, CEO Amaterasu!
(Actually, I pulled one today out of a Set 1 booster draft!)

Check top card, leave it on top.  Opponent: "Damn, it's a trigger."

Oracle Think Tank - Tsukuyomi's Stack

Wrote this up on a whim, so yeah, SURPRISE ARTICLE!  Not that it's half assed or anything.

I played this deck a few times before (in real life with real cards, with proxies, and online) and it really is a lot of fun.  It's also a good memory exercise.  Gotta remember that stack!

This will be my personal take on the deck and will be highly focused on deck depletion.

Update: January 13, 2013

Hey, thanks again for keeping up with us! We have posts that have been edited since their original post time along with some changes:

  • Trigger Capital has now received 2 additional writers: myself and Barrel. I will mainly be writing articles about playing competitively, strategy, and maybe a few deck profiles (which may be done in video form as an accompanying tool or instead of a post altogether) while Barrel's articles will be more geared towards the anime.
  • The Deck Weaknesses article has been updated with info on almost every clan.
  • Unit of the Week updated!
  • New articles uploaded
  • Upcoming articles
    • "About" page so you can find out more about the writers behind this blog which may get you to stay and even share with your friends.
    • "Quick Gameplay Tips" (tentative title) by myself - This will be an article in which I give you some easy tips that should improve your game overall.
    • "Starting Vanguard Analysis" by Dragon∞Blade

Tournament Etiquette

You bought some cards, made a deck, bought more cards, made some changes to it a few times or so, and played enough with your friends to the point where you think you are ready for something larger. Well, as eager as you may be to enter your first sanctioned tournament or a local tournament for the 25th time, there are some things to keep in mind. Having participated in several Cardfight!! Vanguard tournaments myself including the World Championship Qualifier in Los Angeles, I can assure you that playing competitively is vastly different from playing with friends. Here are some guidelines on how to conduct yourself in a competitive setting while still enjoying the game.

Please do not upset the store clerks just because you do not know how to properly act in a competitive setting.  Continue reading this article for some quick and easy tips so you can make the game fun and enjoyable for everyone!

Unit of the Week - 1/13/2013

This week's card will be a personal favorite: Amber Dragon, Eclipse!

So dark and edgy!

Cardfight!! Vanguard Episode 104 Review

Hello and Good [insert period of the day].
I am Barrel and this is my first attempt at blogging as well as reviewing an episode.
Any advice/criticism is welcome.

Since the episode has already been out for a decent while for other people to comment and discuss their opinions, some of the stuff I go over may be old news. But try to bear with me anyways.

The final episode of season 2, in my opinion, was anticlimactic. Now, this will sound like rant of how disappointing the episode felt but I will mention some interesting things (again, in my opinion) that were left unanswered and may be answered in season 3.

Kagero - Lawkeeper (Pure Variant)

In a pure Lawkeeper deck, you want to ride Lawkeeper ALWAYS.  The deck will revolve around gaining effects using Lawkeeper's skill.

Well, in my personal Lawkeeper deck, I don't run 4x Lawkeeper for reasons outside of just gameplay.  Or cost.  Truth be told, I just love the other Kagero grade 3s too much to just use 2 kinds of them in my deck.  So I decided to put up a "pure" variant for those who want a more focused deck.

Unit of the Week - 1/6/2013

So I think I'll do an evaluation each week now, in honor of the awesome units we have in this game.

First one will be everyone's favorite rear guard (or maybe just mines?),
Swordsman of the Explosive Flames, Palamedes!

LOOK AT HOW AWESOME HE IS!

Deck Weaknesses

Almost every deck has a some kind of weakness.  It isn't necessarily an exploitable weakness.  It might not be obvious.  But more often than not, it presents itself to you in the most inconvenient ways.

In this article, I will attempt to describe the weaknesses of several decks.  However they will all be OBSERVED weaknesses rather than theoretical weaknesses.  (Mainly because I don't trust that I know what I'm talking about 95% of the time.)  I'll add to it as I become more certain about things.

EDIT: The rest of the Trigger Capital crew will be joining me in recording observations in this article.

Royal Paladin - Beatdown

And I bring you all my original creation: a Royal Paladin beatdown deck using Solitary Knight, Gancelot!

What?  No!  Don't stop reading!  I'm not crazy!

I swear this deck works!  It seemed to work LESS in my head actually.  Upon testing on Cardfight Capital though, this deck seems to fare quite well against both English meta decks AND Japanese meta decks (and it beats the living hell out of everything else).

CAN'T WAIT to complete the deck with all its pieces.

EDIT:  I congratulate these brave knights, for they have proven themselves worthy!  To me, and to a good number of people at various locals.  This deck isn't just a joke anymore lol.

I wonder if I can troll people more by taking out Elaine and putting in Margal...(not like my main goal here is winning consistently or past my midgame).

Welp. Stuff happens.

So I'm sure a lot of you have heard about Cardfight Capital getting a cease and desist order.  I'm going to remain neutral about that (although I will say that I liked Cardfight Capital a lot and will miss it).  In any case, this means that my "theory" deck lists will be even MORE theoretical until I can somehow proxy test them.  Please don't yell at me for things that looks stupid.

And a lot of other minor stuff happened today too.  Annoying minor stuff.

Welp, can't be helped.

BUT, that's not gonna stop me from writing this blog or coming up with new decks and whatnot.

In fact, it just means that I will work extra hard to make this card game seem awesome to everyone around me and then one day everyone will be cardfighting, just like in the anime, and I won't need an online simulation to test decks!

YES, CARDFIGHTING SHALL BE AN IMPORTANT PART OF ALL OF OUR LIVES ONE DAY!  THAT IS MY DREAM AND IT SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED!

*ahem* Uh, got a bit carried away there.  ANYWAYS, I'll be spending the next month writing articles and spreading the word about this blog to anyone who cares.

Trigger Variety - What it means for gameplay

So I noticed some things that make cardfighting difficult...

Triggers.

...and by triggers, I mean my teammate's penchant for "rainbow trigger" decks.

And so, this article will be dedicated to TRIGGERS, the wonderful grade 0 cards that make this game fun!

Gold Paladin - Garmore (personal variant)

Another of my own decklists.  A more recent one, compared to my Lawkeeper deck.  Has proven itself efficient while remaining well rounded.

I jumped on the gold paladin bandwagon...finally.  Why?
-Bunnies are cute.
-Sagramore is cute.
-Gold Paladins have nice art.
-I was inspired by the image of the gold paladin Gancelot (before his skill was released, mind you; after seeing THAT, I decided that I'd never run more than 1 of him, EVER).

Kagero - Lawkeeper (personal variant)

So I thought I'd start with something simple for my first actual article: a deck list.
This one just so happens to be my own deck.

EDIT: If you are looking for a more "general"/"typical" Lawkeeper deck, I recommend this: http://triggercapital.blogspot.com/2013/01/kagero-lawkeeper-pure-variant.html

Testing? New vanguard blog.

So I finally decided to make a Cardfight!! Vanguard blog.

It's going to include some discussion of gameplay, as well as decklists, anime discussion, and maybe some rants about other things.
